How to Care for Your Silk

Silk is a natural protein fiber, and each silk fabric responds differently to water, heat, and movement. To preserve the drape, color, texture, and longevity of your Ecoforia piece, follow the care guidance for its specific silk below.

The care label sewn into your garment always takes precedence. Construction, lining, color, and trims can require more conservative care than the fabric alone.

22-Momme Washable Sueded Silk

Applies to: Ecoforia Italian Silk Robes, Silk Sleepwear Sets, Washable Italian Silk Pajama Sets, and Silk Robe & Sleepwear Sets in all colors.

These pieces are crafted from 100% washable sueded silk with a substantial 22-momme weight.

Machine wash separately from other fabrics and wash one color at a time.
Use cold water and a gentle, delicate, hand-wash, or wool cycle in a modern washing machine without a center agitator.
Use only the minimum amount of mild liquid detergent formulated for delicate fabrics. Do not use detergent pods, chlorine bleach, or fabric softener.
Do not soak the garment or leave it wet longer than necessary.
Dry immediately after washing on medium to high heat, unless the sewn-in care label specifies a lower temperature.
Stop the dryer every 10–15 minutes, gently untwist the garment, and return it to the dryer. Repeat until completely dry.
Remove promptly and hang away from direct sunlight and heat.
Use a steamer to release wrinkles. Avoid spraying water directly onto the silk.

Italian Sueded Silk Delicate

Applies to: Olesia Italian Silk Dress.

Machine wash separately in cold water on a delicate, gentle, hand-wash, or wool cycle.
Use the minimum amount of mild liquid detergent for delicate fabrics.
Do not soak, bleach, twist, or wring.
Dry immediately after washing on medium heat. Check every 10–15 minutes, gently untwist the garment, and return it to the dryer until completely dry.
Remove promptly and hang away from direct sunlight and heat.

17-Momme Silk Delicate

Applies to: Celeste Silk Dress.

Professional dry cleaning is recommended. The Celeste Dress is made from lightweight 17-momme silk and should be handled gently to preserve its fluid drape and delicate finish. Always follow the sewn-in care label if it specifies more conservative care.

22-Momme Silk Charmeuse

Applies to: Claudia Silk Blouses, Claudia Silk Camisoles, Claudia Silk Wide-Leg Pants, Claudia Silk Bundles, all Livia Silk Dresses, Claudia Livia Silk Bundles, all Dance All Night High Split Silk Dresses, and Lia Silk Skirt.

These pieces are crafted from 22-momme 100% silk charmeuse.

For lighter colors, including Apricot Rose and Rose Beige:

Hand wash separately in cool water, one color at a time.
Use the minimum amount of mild liquid detergent formulated for delicate fabrics.
Do not soak, rub the fabric against itself, twist, or wring.
Rinse thoroughly in cool water.
Gently press out excess water without stretching, then roll the garment in a clean, dry towel.
Hang on a smooth, colorfast hanger in a well-ventilated area away from sunlight and heat.

For Chocolate, Candy Apple, and other dark or highly saturated colors: Professional dry cleaning is recommended to preserve the depth and vibrancy of the color.

Crinkled Silk Crepe de Chine

Applies to: Serena Silk One-Shoulder Wrap Dress.

Dry clean only. Choose a professional cleaner experienced with silk and identify the garment as silk when leaving it for cleaning. This preserves the dress construction, crinkled texture, color, and fluid drape.

25-Momme Artisan Silk Satin

Applies to: Valentina Silk Dress, Valentina Silk Overlay, Valentina Silk Belted Kimono Blouses, Valentina Silk Cropped Wrap Blouses, Valentina Wide-Leg Silk Pants, Ana Silk Drop Waist Dress, Olga Wrap Silk Dress, and Anastasiya High Slit Silk Dress.

Dry clean only. These pieces are crafted from 25-momme artisan silk satin and have not been designated washable. Professional cleaning is recommended to protect the fabric’s weight, luster, color, and garment construction.

Italian Silk — Dry Clean Only

Applies to: Tatiana Asymmetric Silk Dress.

Dry clean only. Professional cleaning is required to protect the dress construction, finish, color, and dramatic asymmetric details.

Silk Linings

Applies to: Vera Cotton Tweed Cropped Jacket and Vera Cotton Tweed Mini Skirt.

Dry clean only. Garments with a silk lining—especially when the outer fabric differs from the lining—should be professionally cleaned to reduce the risk of uneven shrinkage, distortion, or color transfer.

What to Avoid

Direct or prolonged sunlight, which can fade and weaken silk.
Perfume, deodorant, hairspray, or other sprays applied directly to the fabric.
Chlorine bleach, fabric softener, detergent pods, and harsh stain treatments.
Soaking, rubbing, twisting, or wringing wet silk.
Washing silk with non-silk garments or mixing colors.
Direct contact with a hot iron. If ironing is necessary, use low heat, work from the reverse side, and place a clean pressing cloth between the iron and the silk.

Storing Your Silk

Store silk clean, dry, and away from direct sunlight. Allow garments room to breathe and avoid crowding or prolonged pressure that can create deep creases. Hang structured pieces on smooth, colorfast hangers and fold delicate or bias-cut pieces when hanging could distort their shape.
